Description
Sonnet''s FireWire 800 ExpressCard/34 provides you the ability to connect the fastest FireWire multimedia peripherals to your MacBook Pro or Windows notebook computer with an ExpressCard slot, including AJA Video Systems'' ioHD professional video interface and conversion solution.
I purchased this express card to use with my new (late 2008) MacBook Pro 15" Solid Aluminum body. The card is NOT compatible with my MacBook Pro. I did call Sonnet tech support to get advice and they confirmed that this card will not work with the new MacBooks and that they are working on developing a new card that will be compatible.
I confirmed with Sonnet that the current Pro version of the FireWire 800 card is 100% compatible with all MacBook Pros (with Expresscard slot). The card works rock solid in my unibody MacBook Pro. The Sonnet Pro card uses a high-performance version of the TI chip which gives it 40% faster write performance (to FireWire 800 hard drives) than other cards or than Sonnet's discontinued card. I verified the performance on the Sonnet web site using the card to a LaCie 2Big in RAID 0. I was surprised to learn that FireWire 800 performance varies so much by manufacturer. Sonnet is the best!
On the picture they show the new card manufactured by sonnet. (Note it has the blue label on the picture.) However, they ([...]) ships the old card (with the orange label) that is not compatible with several macbook pros. Make sure to purchase from a vendor that actually sells the product pictured.
