The Icon iDo delivers audiophile-grade CD quality sound to digital music files stored on Apple® mobile digital devices. iDo is ideal for music enthusiasts and musicians alike who primarily listen to-and have their digital music libraries stored on-these devices.
A fast and easy connection.
Using the Icon iDo is simple. Users can connect any Apple mobile device to the Icon iDo with the Apple® approved and included 30-pin sync/charging cable, attach the power supply, and then plug the Icon iDo into a home stereo system using RCA cables or a single coaxial. Users can also plug in headphones directly into the Icon iDo for personal high quality sound playback in a manner the artist intended it to be heard.
How iDo makes music stored on Apple devices sound even better?
Apple uses its own audio codec, Apple Lossless Encoder (ALE), to compress and store music files on its devices in original CD quality without loss. However, even ALE files only sound as good as the default DAC (digital-to-analog converter) found within the mobile digital device. Icon iDo bypasses the built-in DAC and extracts the audio data stored on the device in its original digital form in USB Host Mode. It then converts the high-quality files for bit-perfect and low-jitter music playback.
A portable power station for the ultimate headphone listening experience.
Icon iDo also offers a built-in headphone amplifier capable of powering power-hungry headsets, giving users a total audio experience. By properly powering headphones, Icon iDo enhances the auditory performance of the headphones because optimal amperage is being delivered to them, allowing for greater audio clarity.
*The maximum sample rate currently supported by Apple is 16-bit/44.1kHz or 24-bit/48kHz.
**Icon iDo is designed to work with Apple iTune and iPod software. Other applications may not work (but we have not found any application that is incompatible with iDo).

The device produces excellent results. I use it as a headphone amp from my Iphone. The price is right. The volume control is exquisitely sensitive. The sound is extraordinary. I measure against a certain harmonic buzz in the bass strings in a Brubeck piece using a high-end sennheiser headphone. If only it were mobile.NuForce Icon iDo (Silver Color. I've had my NuForce Icon iDo for about ten days. It's paired with a 6th/7th Generation (post-2009) 160GB iPod Classic and any of several sets of headphones that I use at my bedside "listening station." I have been comparing it with comparably priced headphone amps from HeadRoom (solid state) and Fournier (tube). The NuForce iDo easily meets - and, for listening to my iPod Classic, exceeds - their levels of performance. The nicest feature of the NuForce Icon iDo is that it never intrudes on the music flowing to your ears. It does increase the depth, breath and precision of the soundstage; it cleans up the signal path, without rendering it "sterile" or "clinical"; and it easily drives every headphone I own without showing any strain or requiring anything beyond about 40% of its available volume in order to hit maximum comfortable listening levels. But it absolutely respects silent moments and intervals; using it with a good isolating in-ear... |

I have used this unit for several hours on many different types of music in different formats on my home stereo. I use it as a means to play file music on my audiophile grade home stereo in a music specific listening room. I have started to purchase more online music as its cheaper and immediate. The sound quality (lossless format) is better than the same music in cd format from my Rotel cd player and Rotel preamp. I connect this directly to my amplifier for an amazing sound. I have since converted several discs to the Apple lossless format from AAC 128k. I only use my cd player and preamp for comparison tests, but the difference is so noticable that I have only done that a few times and only after i first bought it.The unit does come with bugs or needs for improvement.1) When docking, it forces you to start a new song. The ipod appears to be stuck.2) There is a 1 second latency on button pushes through the remote, which is annoying. It takes at... |
