(There are two versions of the product, one that works with an iPhone 5/5s with a lightning connector, and one that works with an iPhone 4/4s with the "old" 30-pin Apple connector. As far as I can tell, the products are identical except for the different connectors, so I'm posting the review on both product pages.)This robot is absolutely amazing! I'm just sorry that the company behind it is positioning it as a "robotic pet" -- i.e. a toy. It's so much more. In fact, it's like a remote-control NASA rover that you can control from the other side of the planet and use to explore the environment the robot is in. It's incredible.First, let's start with the "toy" functionality. As a toy, it's delightful and hilarious. When your iPhone is plugged into the tractor tread base, the iPhone takes on the personality of a little robot. The animation and personality are very well done. Because the iPhone app controls the treads, the robot can move around and interact with...

But for an adult, the ability to drive the Romo remotely is important and for the price, not bad. What brings the stars down is:1) the telepresence ability is quirky. I have an iPhone4S on my Romo and controlling it via iPhone5S. it crashes as soon as I dial in from my 5S. On the other hand, it works from my Mac. But only sometimes. Other times it doesn't know that someone has called, or the video lags a lot, or Romo keeps moving forward without a way to stop him. Or he gets stuck.2) No speech recognition and text to speech. It's not hard to integrate Dragon Mobile into this. In fact I even saw a video of this being done in the kickstarter. But its not on the Romo, and its too bad, I would've liked to say something to him and react. In the end this is a good value, much cheaper than other...
