Description
This is the case you need if you want protection with style. Slim and sleek, this case provides substantial protection that keeps you and your device looking great while you stay on top of your highly connected life.
I've been a big fan of the Otterbox Commuter series of cases, but I was disappointed with the new iPhone 5 Commuter. My issue with the case is its thickness. The case almost doubles the thickness of the iPhone 5 (.30 to .56 inches). For comparison, the iPhone 4 Commuter was .57 inches thick. While the iPhone 5 is .07 inches thinner than the 4, the Commuter case is only .01 inch thinner than the 4 case. Part of that is due to a raised lip on the front that I would guess is 1/8" high. I found the lip to be quite noticeable when using the phone. If the added thickness doesn't bother you, then you should like this case. It is as nice as the previous Commuter cases I have used. The fit was good and the protective flaps fit nicely over the headphone jack and the lightning port. The case will protect your phone, but I would not describe this case as sleek.
Compared to the iPhone 4S version of this case this is a complete redesign. Part of that was required because of the new dimension, port locations and size of the iPhone 5, but other parts seem to be a genuine attempt at improvements.Positives--Feels very well protected.--Newer rubber material is more plasticky than previous versions. Better feel, nicer fit and seems less likely to stretch over time. Also doesn't catch when going into the pocket.Neutral--Edge on the front glass is significant. This doesn't encumber my typing but I am aware of it. Of course, this is part of the protection of this case and is a fair trade-off in my opinion.--General thickness. Definitely distracts from the beauty of an iPhone 5. This is not a flaw in the product, though, just a decisions making point for the consumer. That thickness is, once again, a trade-off for protection.Negatives--Power button has a ton of resistance while in...
I absolutely adored the commuter case for my iPhone 4, but this new one is thick and bulky. It has a very high lip around the screen making it very uncomfortable to use, plus it just looks silly on the super sleek iPhone 5.
