Description
Original replacement battery, for 15" i5 & i7 Macbook Pro from 2011. Note: when installing, be sure to reset your system's SMC immediately, as it may continue to register errors from your old battery. You can find information from Apple's website, or Wegener Media offers technical instructions for this process in their documentation with the battery.
Buying one of these batteries is fraught with anxiety. Apple does not sell them directly, and the aftermarket is filled with counterfeits. I do not have an approved Apple repair shop in my area. The reputable online sources for genuine parts do not have these in stock. Considering that a crap battery could do permanent damage to my laptop makes this purchase even more irritating. Arrgh!Thankfully, this battery arrived in a sticker-sealed static bag and appeared to be a genuine Apple battery. It is identical to the original battery I pulled from my early-2011 MBP. I had some doubts whether it is truly brand-new, since it has some minor scratches and smudges from an apparent wipe down. However, once installed it shows a full capacity of 6877mAh and has zero cycles, so I really don't care where it came from. It does the job. I have no complaints, it works as advertised and I would buy from this seller (ThunderPower) again.NOTE: I needed a tri-lobe screwdriver to remove the...
I totally recommend this product, this is a genuine Apple battery made by SMP. I installed it on my Macbook Pro 15' early 2011 and worked perfectly, when I opened the bag it smelled like a new Apple product. A couple of days after installing Mountain Lion, my previous battery started to fail (after only 35 cycles in 17 month), first I got the "Service battery" warning and the next day, all of a sudden the battery completely failed and the operating system wasn't able to recognize it anymore (even though I did a SMC reset). This new battery works fine, it has a designed capacity of 6900 mAh but I get a maximum charge of 6925 mAh and 4 hours of battery life with normal use.Pros:- Excellent price- Genuine product- Perfect condition when arrived- Half battery already charged when arrived- Delivered pretty fastCons:- None
Purchased from a third party seller, and this does indeed seem to be the genuine article. Installed in minutes (I already had the bottom plate screws out to put in a new SSD as well :) with the tri-wing screwdriver which you will NEED to remove the old one and install this one. It was about 40% charged on first boot, and has been plugged in ever since. Currently coconutBattery is showing current/maximum charge of 6897 mAh and a design of 6900. Given others have had others above that, I'd imagine these all fluctuate plus or minus around that number. Load cycles: 0, temp 30.6C, battery usage 3.6W (not sure if any of that matters).Need to take it for a test drive but I am expecting for things to go back to 5-7 hours as my original battery did. Recently the old one got the service notice and was already at 78% capacity or so, and has been rapidly declining since, giving me only a few hours usually. Good riddance. :)
